2005 ANNUAL MEETING
& ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARDS

Purpose

The Annual Meeting of the Association provides individual and club members an opportunity to voice their opinion, ask questions, and help elect the Board of Governors that works on behalf of the membership throughout the year, coordinating road running, track & field, cross country, racewalking, and mountain running activities, for all ages.

All USATF members age 18 and over, whether a member of a club or unattached, have a vote at this meeting. They must have been a member as of the first day of the month preceding the meeting - August 1, 2005.

The current USATF New England by-laws can be found by clicking here, or by requesting a copy from the New England office, office@usatfne.org.

Key items will be review of the year's programs, election of sports committee chairmen and Athlete of the Month awards.

Incumbents and responsibilities of the various positions that are to be elected are detailed below. Anyone interested in running for, or requesting additional information on, a USATF-NE Board position, may contact the USATF-NE President, Gary Snyder or one of the Vice-Presidents, Harry Brooks, John Oleski, Ken Robichaud ).

    For the efficient conduct of the meeting, written reports from Officers, Sports Chairmen, Athlete Representatives and Officials will be available in writing.

  6. Elections
    Officers are in the middle of a two year term and not up for election Sports Committee Chairmen. A total of nine chairmen will be elected (See Below) Athlete Representatives: Three Athlete Representatives will be elected.
  7. Selection of 15 delegates to the USATF Annual Meeting November 30 - December 4 in Jacksonville FL.

Elections: Positions Open

SPORTS COMMITTEE CHAIRS - All are elected for a one-year term

 

Long Distance Running Men - Incumbent: Jim Garcia
Women - Incumbent: Patrick Sweeney
Masters - Incumbent: Courtney Bird
Track & Field Open - Incumbent: David Cahill
Masters - Incumbent: Lee Hess
Cross Country Incumbent: Dan Hart
Mountain Running Incumbent: Rich Bolt
Racewalking Incumbent: Justin Kuo
Youth Athletics Incumbent: Lance Turley

Sports Chair Responsibilities include:

  • Attend monthly Board meetings
  • Organize meetings pertaining to their sport
  • Arrange for the conduct of championships and attend championships
  • Help promote events and avoid scheduling conflicts within the various sports
  • Adjudicate problems and/or protests in regards to competition
  • Work to establish development programs and clinics which will increase participation and quality of the sport
  • Work with the Association office in securing sponsorship for and conducting of special, regional, and national events as appropriate
  • Work as a team with other sports chairs
ATHLETE REPRESENTATIVES - Three positions elected for a one-year term
  Incumbents: David Callum, Christine Kloiber, and John Mortimer.
Athlete Representative Responsibilities include:
  • Attend monthly Board meetings
  • Serve as liaison between athletes, events, and Association
  • Get feedback from athletes regarding events/management, programs, clinics, schedules
  • Attend championships and other events
  • Assist in adjudication of problems and/or protests in regards to competition
  • Work as a team with the sports chairs
  • Assist with planning and implementation of development projects

ANNUAL MEETING DELEGATES - 14 Members are selected to represent USATF-NE at the 2005 USATF Annual Meeting in Jacksonville, Florida, November 30 - December 4, 2005.

Annual Meeting Delegate Responsibilities include:
  • Attend the opening session Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.
  • Sports Chairs should attend all meetings relevant to their respective board position.
  • Others should seek out meetings of their own interest or attempt to cover meetings that the Sports Chairs are unable to attend.
  • Attend the Awards Breakfast Buffet, Saturday, December 3, 2005 at 7:00 a.m.
  • Attend the Closing General Session on unday, December 4, 3005 at 8:30 a.m.
  • Submit a written report on the trip

Boston College is located in the Chestnut Hill section of Newton, Massachusetts. The campus is approximately six miles west of the city of Boston.

FROM POINTS NORTH AND SOUTH: Take Interstate 95 (Route 128) to Exit 24 (Route 30). Proceed east on Route 30, also known as Commonwealth Avenue, and follow for about five miles to Boston College. You will pass BC's Main Gate on your right, continue down the hill to St. Ignatius Church and the Green Line T Stop. Take a right into Boston College's Lower Campus. Take an immediate right and go past the gate attendant. Follow the campus road until you see Conte Forum, Alumni Stadium and the Yawkey Center on your right. There is free parking in front of the Yawkey Building or the Beacon St. Garage just past the Stadium.

FROM POINTS WEST: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route 90) to Exit 17. At the first set of lights after the exit ramp, take a right onto Centre Street. Follow Centre Street to the fourth set of lights, and turn left onto Commonwealth Avenue. Follow Commonwealth Avenue 1-1/2 miles to Boston College. You will pass BC's Main Gate on your right, continue down the hill to St. Ignatius Church and the Green Line T Stop. Take a right into Boston College's Lower Campus. Take an immediate right and go past the gate attendant. Follow the campus road until you see Conte Forum, Alumni Stadium and the Yawkey Center on your right. There is free parking in front of the Yawkey Building or the Beacon St. Garage just past the Stadium.

FROM DOWNTOWN BOSTON: Take the Massachusetts Turnpike (Route 90) to Exit 17. Take a left over the bridge after passing the Sheraton Tara Hotel. Take the first right onto Centre Street. Follow above directions from Centre Street.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION: The Boston College branch of the MBTA's "Green Line" (B) ends at the Boston-Newton boundary on Commonwealth Avenue. Cross the street and walk by St. Ignatius Church and follow the perimeter road around to campus entrances.
