This series is set up to generate interest in our sport among open athletes and to smooth the gap between collegiate and post-collegiate competition. The indoor season offers a compact and competitive season for these athletes with the most opportunitites.
Requirements
The competition is open to anyone who is a USATF-NE member. Athletes are responsible for their own entry and must
meet any specific competition standards and deadlines.
Note that it is not the duty of USATF-NE to get an athlete into a meet.
All athletes must
be a USATF-NE member prior to a performance being scored, no exceptions.
Overview
Open athletes will have individual marks ranked and the competition lies within their event grouping (sprints, distance, and field events).
For example, a sprinter will score points in events of 800 meters and under, distance runners score 1000 meters and above, and field events include all jumps and throws.
Athletes will be compared to others in the same event group.
Marks must meet a level of quality - 700 points on the IAAF scoring tables - http://www.iaaf.org/downloads/scoringtables/) to be ranked. The IAAF scoring tables are used to compare strength of performances.
To be scored, athletes must compete in a minimum of three events throughout the season, one of which must be the New England Championships on February 18. We will find the results from each meet; points will be achieved for each performance, and at the end of the series, those athletes taking part in three events will have their top three performances scored and ranked. Leaders will be posted on the USATF-NE website throughout the indoor season. Winners of each event grouping will be named after the NE Championships.
